Making Blogger Friends (& why you should!)

I’ve always felt so awkward reaching out to other bloggers, especially because it feels as though they’re all more successful than I am… But, I think I’ve got the hang of it now, so here’s some advice for those of you in my shoes!

Opening the door

Sometimes the hardest part of building a new friendship is starting a connection with someone. The easiest way to do this is to follow someone, even if they are not in your “niche”. Use these people as an opportunity. Stay active on social media, and be ‘available’ and open to conversation. Comment on other people’s blogs, join Facebook groups where you can (avoid spammy ones, and focus on those where you can have decent conversations.) Respond to comments (I’m the worst at this, though, lol) but some of the best blogger friendships have started by one half leaving a comment on the other half’s blog and striking up a conversation.

Be consistent
One thing you don’t want to do, is start building a friendship just to drop that person. Don’t comment on every post of theirs for a month, just to suddenly stop. If you stay constant and consistent, there’s an increasing chance that they will return the love and even reach out to you. A little effort will go a long way.
Another way to keep up consistency is to style all your social media profiles similarly, to be more recognizable.

Be real
Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not to try and fit into the “cool” group. It’s hard keeping up appearances and starts showing through after a couple of posts. By being genuine, more meaningful relationships are built upon your quirks.

Pay attention
You should pay close attention to other people’s social media and blogs. You can find a ton of people who share similar interests, and that you’d probably befriend IRL. Look at common hasthtags used by people in your niche & industry. I’m obsessed with blog directories and Twitter Chat accounts, they often have a group chat where information can be shared, and discussions happen on current trends. This is the easiest way to meet people, I promise.

Collaborating & supporting
Honestly, I could do an entire post on this topic alone (maybe I will!), but obviously you want to collaborate with fellow bloggers and build community on your blogs. The easiest way to do this is by collaborating on a post (for example a tag), guest posting or purchasing ad space on their site.
These connections and friendships are so beneficial if you want to connect with other bloggers. You have someone who knows what you’re going through, and can help you out. Who understands the rough patches that come with blogging and are willing help you through the hard times. The advantages are endless, and I have yet to find any disadvantages to having blogger friends!

Let’s be friends!
  1.  Leave a comment down below with your blog address, I’d be more than happy to check it out.
  2.  Follow me on IG or Twitter @15bex02 (I follow back) and we can start up a conversation there!

Super keen to hear from you (:
